Our Horses

Meet the Horses and Ponies of the Louisville Equestrian Center Lesson Program!

Angel: I am a 21 yr. old Saddlebred. I am a little nervous when people work with me, especially when they walk me through small doorways but I am still lots of fun to take to shows. I am smooth to ride and am very good at showmanship so I’m a great pick for 4-H.

Armani: I am a 12 yr. old Morgan. I am loads of fun to ride for more advanced students.

Barclay: I am a 13 yr. old Arabian. I’m really sweet and carrots are my favorite treat.

Black Jack: I am a 17 yr. old Saddlebred and I moved to LEC from William Woods University; although, originally, I am from the East Coast. I love teaching lessons at LEC because I always get a peppermint before I let the riders get on me.

Bobby Ray: I am a 16 yr. old Saddlebred. I am one of the 5-gaited horses a LEC. I am easy to slow gait and riders usually do this first on me. However, I can also be very playful so my riders always have to pay attention!

Casper: I am a 20 yr. old Saddlebred and I am the only white horse at LEC and because of this, I am a favorite during camp when the kids get to finger paint horses. I have been painted lots of different colors throughout the years.

Cody: I am a Saddlebred at LEC. The kids get lots of grooming practice on me in the winter time. I grow a huge winter coat every year and get so fuzzy I look a lot bigger than I am!

Firecracker: I am a 19 yr. old Saddlebred. I am a very tall liver chestnut and some of the kids say I look like a “big brown moose.”

Gordon: I am a 26 yr. old Saddlebred. You have to pay attention when you work with me because I can get a little grabby and your shirttails might find their way into my mouth! Sometimes I get a little jealous when the horses that live next to me get treats and I think everyone should be feeding me treats.

Hi Tide: I am a 27 yr. old Morgan. I have been teaching lessons for a very long time and am very trustworthy. Even though I might seem old, I can still be silly sometimes and I definitely keep up with the younger ponies.

Mickey: I am the only quarter horse in the lesson program and one of only a few palominos at the Louisville Equestrian Center. I might not hold my head as high as some of the others but I am lots of fun to ride! I used to be a jumper before I came here and tried Saddle Seat.

Minnie: I am a 14 yr. old Welsh Pony and I used to be a jumper before I came to LEC. I have a talent for making impossible escapes from the barn so I can sneak out and eat grass! And I am oh so hungry!

Mouse: I am a miniature Sicilian Donkey. I don’t teach lessons at LEC but the kids love to come and visit me in the field where I live with Spot and Minnie. I like to talk and you will probably hear me braying during lessons especially if Spot and Minnie are inside.

Mr. Ed: I’m a chestnut Pony of the Americas. I am very happy teaching Saddle Seat at LEC. I love little kids and I am extremely gentle but the best part is that they usually bring me peppermints to eat after a lesson!

Raleigh: I am a 14 yr. old Saddlebred. I am the first horse that the kids get to canter because I’m a really good listener and I am really smooth to ride!

Splash: I am a 19 yr. old Morgan. I have known Betsy for a long time. I used to teach lessons with her when she worked at Walnut Way Farm. I love being able to teach kids how to ride although sometimes I get distracted outside since there is grass in the middle of the arena!

Sport: I am a Saddlebred at LEC and I am lots of fun to ride.

Spot: I am a 12 yr. old Shetland pony. I live with Mouse and Minnie. My girlfriend Minnie and I make a very cute pair and we like to give lessons together so we can talk to each other while we teach.

Troubador: I am a 12 yr. old Saddlebred. I’m a pinto and have big brown splotches all over me so I stand out from the other horses. I love giving lessons but I am very particular and will only canter on one lead!

Webster: I am 6 yr. old Morgan. I didn’t really know how to teach lessons before I came to LEC so I learn just as much as the kids do when they ride me! The kids call me Webby and even though I am one of the smaller ponies here, I am one of the most popular to visit.

Willow: I am a 12 yr. old Haflinger pony. Before I came to LEC I was a foxhunter. I am very round and have tons of blonde dreadlocks and the kids like to call me “Willow the Pillow.” It takes the kids hours to shampoo and detangle my hair for a horse show but when they do I look like a million bucks!
